So we last left off with me on hold to HMRC to request my UK Tax code. As it turns out, they will not issue this unless you are working, so the person at the bank gave us another wild goose to chase. Instead I ended up asking HMRC to send a National Insurance (NINo) Statement. You can request these via a form online, too, so you can bypass the long wait on the phone.
Now, I was told on the phone that it would take 5-10 days for the statement to arrive… back on the 20th of February… This is likely a case of me getting the one clueless person in the office at the time so don’t read into it too much, but the thing never arrived. I ended up phoning them a second time(!!) to request the NINo Statement. Suffice it to say, it was processed the second time and I now have said NINo statement in my hands.
So it’s back to the bank we go (hi-ho, hi-ho), this time armed with everything they’ve asked us to provide, in the hope that we’ll actually be able to get stuff done for a change (cynical? No… of course not).
How did it go? Surprisingly easy, given all of the hoop-jumping we did already. It was all done and dusted in a little less than an hour. So now I have, at last, easy access to money…
err… or will as soon as cards and such arrive in the post. d’oh!
